The LGBTQ+ Religious Liberty and Freedom Project is part of Parity, a 25 year old faith-based LGBTQ+ advocacy organization located in New York City.
Parity promotes faith and promotes LGBTQ+ concerns. We help homeless youth, we mentor new LGBTQ+ pastors. We are the “Glitter + Ash” people, and recently launched Glitter Blessings. We also work behind the scenes doing nuanced bridge building between traditionally rejecting faiths and LGBTQ+ people. And we do more.
But why this topic?
Of the many issues facing LGBTQ+ people in the U.S., arguably the exclusionary concept of "religious freedom" is one of the biggest threats to civil rights.
And it is because of some religious attitudes that LGBTQ+ young people are turned off from exploring and perhaps embracing spirituality, faith and religion.
This is why we care. And we hope that you care, too.
Sincerely,
Rev. Dr. Marian Edmonds-Allen
Executive Director, Parity
